Romelu Lukaku or Zlatan Ibrahimovic- who should Manchester United put up top in the center? Which striker should spearhead their attack tomorrow at Leicester City? Why not use both at the same time, as manager Jose Mourinho did for a time at Bristol City in midweek?
Instead of a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3, United could go with a 4-4-2, placing Ibrahimovic as a No. 10 with Lukaku playing the No. 9 at the King Power Stadium this weekend.
Ibrahimovic has experience playing a bit deeper. His manager discussed the idea Friday.
“He played the last match [against Bristol City] in that period in the second half where we replaced Daley Blind with Lukaku and Lukaku played no.9 and Zlatan played no.10,” Mourinho told the club’s official website ManUtd.com.
“I know that was in the period where his energy was going down but, obviously, there are spaces where a no.10 plays and spaces where Ibrahimovic, even when he was clearly a no.9, feels comfortable to play. So, yes, why not?”
Why not indeed? Lukaku has been rather inconsistent this season- dominant against lesser competition, invisible against the top six. Maybe Ibrahimovic could be the sparkplug?
Having another dangerous scoring threat around at the same time could free up opportunities for the Belgian.
