United have taken all three points from each of their first three matches, thus prompting Wayne Rooney to state that new manager Jose Mourinho has already fixed one of Louis van Gaal’s mistakes.
Mourinho has gotten the team off to a great start, something Van Gaal did not. You’ll recall all the news stories during LVG’s first season in which media outlets pointed out how even David Moyes had a better beginning at Old Trafford than Van Gaal did.
“You look at the years when Jose won the title at Chelsea, they always started well. I think the way it’s been for us the last two or three seasons, it was important for us as a team,” said Rooney.
“Jose has brought that experience in, that winning mentality again. That’s showing in the players and it’s maybe lacked over the last couple of years.
“It’s early but you want to try to build momentum and especially going into the international break. To go there with three wins is important, and with the next game being Man City.
“It was a big win for us, even though it’s so early in the season. We know whatever happens against City isn’t going to define the season but it’s always nice to go into that break with the three wins.”
“I think that’s the big difference this year.”
After the international break, United will face Manchester City in a huge match, or at least as huge a match as you can really have in early September. When the Manchester Derby commences on September 10th, it will be a match up of the two teams that most pundits predicted to win the Premier League title this season.
Chelsea was another team that many pundits picked to finish in the top four. Thus far the two Manchester clubs, and the Blues, look like they are in a top class above the rest of the league.
