Former Bayern Munich great Franz Beckenbauer told Bastian Schweinsteiger to avoid joining Manchester United, but the current captain of the German National Team ignored that advice. Schweinsteiger, the first German in the history of the club (he made a funny joke about that by the way) wants to help his teammates experience the zeitgeist of his native land by taking them to Oktoberfest in Munich.
Of course, before he brings the traveling team party to the world’s largest bier hall festival he will need to get the approval of Manager Louis van Gaal. We’ll see if the wine drinking “Iron Tulip” has a weltanschauung that allows such an excursion.
He told Sky Deutschland: ‘I once said to Wayne [Rooney, United’s captain], if we have the time, I want to invite the team to Oktoberfest.
‘I do not know if we have that much time, and if it has the coach’s approval.’
Of course, Van Gaal has said to the press a couple times recently that he sees the players as human beings first and not just players. (in reference to the never-ending David de Gea transfer soap opera). So let’s raise a stein here to the idea that Van Gaal decides to let Schweinsteiger lead the boys on a Bavarian adventure.
