Atletico Madrid have been given a huge boost ahead of the Champions League final after Tottenham and Manchester United target Saul Niguez put pen to paper on a new long-term deal. A year and change ago United reportedly sent scouts to watch the Atletico Madrid midfielder in UEFA Champions League action against Bayern Leverkusen.
Spurs were interested in the 21-year-old, who received his first Spanish call-up on Tuesday, as well.
Ultimately though, Saul Niguez committed his future to Atletico Madrid until 2021 by signing a new, five year contract extension at the Estadio Vicente Calderon. Niguez became a first-team regular this season at Atletico Madrid this year making 45 appearances and scoring eight times for a side that finished third in the La Liga table. Diego Simone’s club will take on their intra-city Spanish capital rivals, Real Madrid, in the UEFA Champions League final on May 28th.
With Sevilla beating Liverpool 3-1 last night in the Europa League Final, a club from Spain’s top flight is now guaranteed to win both of the European competitions for the third season in a row.
