It continues to be a very exciting summer at Manchester United, with plenty of topics to discuss. What offseason, right?
So let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet today.
-United manager Jose Mourinho got his World Cup wish today when Brazil eliminated Serbia from the tournament. The result means that Mourinho’s general on the pitch, Nemanja Matic, gets to take a holiday with his international duty now over.
Mourinho is doing punditry this World Cup for Russia Today, and before the tournament began he made his group stage predictions.
“It’s very difficult, I don’t want to be emotional but I have to be. I want my players to win but I also want my players to go on holiday,” the United boss said.
“I need Matic to go on holiday so [I’m predicting] Switzerland to finish second [in Group E behind Brazil]. I’m sorry Nemanja but you need a holiday.”
Matic is the first United player to see his side bounced. Meanwhile the other 10 in the tourney are still in it as of Wednesday night.
The Wayne Rooney to D.C. United transfer is going to happen, and it’s going to happen soon! No really, we mean it this time. Wazza’s jump to MLS is not news, as it’s been out there for several weeks already, but according Sky Sports, he will be officially introduced as the newest member of the club on Monday.
According to the report, he’ll begin training with the club by the end of the week, and he could make his debut July 14. Why such a long wait? Because the MLS transfer window doesn’t open until July 10. Also, his debut with his new club would then coincide with the opening of the new stadium.
-Finally, United are close to adding 35-year-old Lee Grant to their goalkeeping corps. The Telegraph reports that United about to bring Grant on to serve as the third string keeper behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero.
