We’re currently on another seemingly long international break, but we still have plenty of off-the-pitch news topics to discuss. So without further ado, let’s take a spin through the latest Manchester United news and notes items circulating on the internet today.
We’ll start with Brazilian midfielder Fred, who explained his squad number choice in detail.
“I’ve always liked the number 17, ” Fred told manutd.com
“I think it goes back to my childhood in Brazil, when I’d wear number 7 or 17. I ended up becoming quite attached to this number, but it has no special meaning, it’s just a number I like a lot, and I’m sure I’ll do well with this number.”
-One topic which never seems to go away, and often serves as a space filler for slow news days like this, is the future of Paul Pogba. More transfer rumors keep circulating around Pogba, with FC Barcelona pegged as the destination. The Frenchman says there is no there there however.
Speaking to the French TV show Téléfoot (transcript SB Nation), Pogba said: “I have a contract. If you don’t see me with a Barça shirt on, it’s because I’m at United. Those are just rumors.”
This however, might be the most interesting story you’ll read today! Wow! Via TalkSPORT
Salvador Cabanas was set to become a Manchester United player before he was shot in the head outside of a nightclub in Mexico.
The Paraguay international, who survived the attack, won the South American Player of the Year Award in 2007 and Sir Alex Ferguson was reportedly a huge fan.
Cabanas, amazingly, would recover fully and even went on to play football again, for his home town club. He retired two years later in 2012.
-Finally, United wonderkid and super prospect Angel Gomes discussed his present and his future.
“I’ve got to put that [expectation] to one side,” Gomes told ESPN FC. “The best players get to the top because they have stayed level-headed.”
“I’ve got to carry on working hard and keep putting everything in to training and games.”
