Man United Looking at Yerry Mina as Potential Answer to Centre Back Problems

Barcelona centre back Yerry Mina might be the most realistic option right now for Manchester United as they look to improve their position of biggest weakness. Old Trafford is running out of time to find an upgrade over Chris Smalling and/or Phil Jones.

It doesn’t appear that they’re going to be able to land Harry Maguire or Toby Alderweireld or Jerome Boateng between now and the window closing in four days, so their chances of actually signing someone near the top of their list of targets seems to be dwindling by the day.

To sign Mina, they will face competition from Everton, as well as a host of other clubs.

According to one outlet, Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, United have already reached an agreement for the Colombian international. That report claims the two sides just need to work out a transfer fee, but the 23-year-old’s deal with his new club will pay him £7 million per season for five years.

Of course, don’t rule out the Toffees just yet. The Manchester Evening News writes that the Merseyside club are currently leading the way, buoyed by the recruiting efforts of Lucas Digne, who moved from Barca to Goodison Park himself just last week. Digne said that he’s been recruiting his former teammate.

“I hope to see him here but I don’t know really! He’ll choose the best for his career and we’ll see,” Digne said.

“I said to him to come but we’ll see. Really I don’t know. He’s a good player and a good guy.”
