Manchester United will travel across town for the Manchester Derby next weekend, and attempt to keep City from celebrating their Premier League title conquest right in front of their very eyes. If City beats United on Saturday, the champions-in-waiting, up 16 in points and +30 goal differential on their rivals/next closest competitors, will officially become the league champions.

For City, this would be their third league title in seven seasons, and club captain Vincent Kompany knows just how enormous this would be to his side’s supporters.

“It would mean the world to our fans. I have lived in Manchester long enough to understand how important it is to them and how important it is to the other team that it doesn’t happen,” Kompany admitted, as he explained how he anticipates a big time atmosphere for this next edition of the derby.

“It will be lively and hopefully spicy,” Kompany continued.

“Man United have seven days to prepare and we must first have a good game (in the Champions League) against Liverpool. We need that momentum and that good feeling.”

City cruised past Everton 3-1 on Saturday while United looked dominant in a 2-0 win over Swansea City. The Red Devils are off until this derby, while City have a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal date with Liverpool on Wednesday night.

As City have one hand on the league title trophy, United manager Jose Mourinho has already declared that he will fight down to the last match to outlast Liverpool for runner’s-up status.
