Jose Mourinho on Why He’s Still Living in a Hotel: “I am very lazy”

Though he’s been on the job since May of 2016, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho still does not have a permanent residence in the area. Instead he lives in a posh hotel, while his wife, Matilde, still resides in London. These facts fit nicely into a prevalent narrative that insists he’s not going to stick around Old Trafford very long.

Those claims were dismissed by Mourinho on Thursday as “garbage news,” and he was actually quite emphatic about it about during his pre-FA Cup news conference. The United boss maintains that he will stay at the theatre of dreams as long as they will have him.

Mourinho also offered a more simple explanation as to why he hasn’t rented/leased/purchased a more permanent residence in the Manchester area.

“I am very lazy and because I like to arrive in the hotel, I don’t want anyone to be worried because I live in a two square meters room, I am living in an apartment inside of a hotel where I have all the comfort, the support, where I have everything I want, like I am living in a house,” he said.

“So if they are worried about me being comfortable, happy and supported, I really am. That’s the way I feel very comfortable.”

“If they want me in some house that I don’t like, in some place I don’t like, lonely from my assistants, if they want that, I would be a sad guy and a sad guy doesn’t work well.”
