Manchester United headed into the international break undefeated and tied for the top of the Premier League table with their cross-town rivals, Manchester City. Through the first seven games of the season, both Manchester clubs have six victories and one draw to their credit. City are ahead on goal differential +1.
Recognizing United’s heroic start, manager Jose Mourinho is up for the September Premier League Manager of the month award. Striker Romelu Lukaku is a nominee for player of the month accolades.
Mourinho faces competition from City’s Pep Guardiola, Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger and Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino for the plaudit, while Lukaku is up against Man City duo Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Pascal Gross, Tottenham superstar Harry Kane, Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles and Alvaro Morata, the man who broke Chelsea’s all time transfer fee record when he signed from Real Madrid.
