It’s been a very eventful weekend regarding Michael Carrick news. On Friday night Manchester United Team Captain and midfielder released a statement revealing that he had an irregular heart rhythm, and that a minor heart procedure was required in order to correct the issue.

The 36-year-old maintains that his heart problem is fixed now and that he’s back in training. He said he’s on target to return to action soon. When he is done playing though, a coaching position will be waiting for him at Old Trafford, United manager Jose Mourinho said on Sunday.

“Michael as a person is more important than Michael as a player,” Mourinho said in his postgame news conference, following a 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

“We gave him the time to relax, to recover and to feel confident, to make the decision he wants to play, he wants to stop.”

“He knows that my coaching staff has a chair for him if he wants, when he wants. I want that, the board wants that, the owners want that, so Michael is in a comfortable situation. His future is with us but he wants to be a player until the end of the season.”

Michael Carrick, who is currently on a year deal that expires at the end of the season, has been with the club since the summer of 2006. He has played in more than 400 games, and won five Premier League titles at Old Trafford. He already had his testimonial match this past June.
