Judas Iscariot was the disciple of Jesus Christ who betrayed him for 30 pieces of silver. The messiah himself supposedly saw the betrayal coming, according to scripture.
The name Judas is often used synonymously with betrayal or treason, and it’s become thrusted back into popular culture due to the Lady Gaga song named after him, which was released in 2011.
Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho and his club travelled to Chelsea tonight for a FA Cup quarterfinal match which saw the Blues triumph 1-0. United, the current FA Cup title holders, were hence eliminated from the competition, and the game marked the second time that Mourinho had returned to Stamford Bridge since Chelsea sacked him in December of 2015.
Mourinho, who won three titles at Chelsea, was labelled “Judas” and hit with chants of “Fuck off Mourinho,” “It’s all your fault” and “You’re not special any more” by Blues supporters in this one.
It is worth mentioning that
1.) Chelsea went an entire half-century (1954-55 until 2004-05) without winning a Premier League title until Jose Mourinho took control of the club and
2.) he didn’t defect in order to join United, he was fired by the West London club first, and he then remained out of the game for half of a year before moving to Old Trafford.
“They can call me what they want,” Mourinho said.
“I am a professional. I defend my club. Until the moment they have a manager that wins four Premier Leagues for them, I’m the No. 1. When they have somebody who wins four Premier Leagues for them, I’ll be No. 2. For this moment, ‘Judas’ is No. 1.”
It’s also worth mentioning that when Mourinho was sacked by the club in December 2015, it was the second time, and it came just seven months after the club had won a title.
