As we learned this past January Transfer Window, Manchester United will not consider any loan enquiries regarding either Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial. There were a ton of Anthony Martial loan move stories consistently in the tabloids this past window, but United Manager Jose Mourinho has never been on board with those narratives.
Mourinho has always wanted the Frenchman to stick around, and listen to him instead of listening to his agent. Zlatan Ibrahimovic concurred, advocating Martial put the advice of Mourinho over that of his agent.
Yesterday, Martial tweeted that people should not listen to the newspaper stories about his current situation/future with the club (at least that’s what to be implied from his posting). The Frenchman also clearly said on the micro-blogging platform that these newspaper stories are false.
While Martial still hasn’t found his place within Mourinho’s United, and too often finds himself on the bench, he has been urged to hold on and maintain patience. That is the advice of former United and France National defender Mikael Silvestre, who also advises the youngster not to “do a Pogba” (follow the lead of Paul Pogba, who left United early in his career for Juventus, due to his being buried on the depth chart).
“[He had] a very good season and adaptation to the Premier League and United, he had been their top scorer last season, but this year he’s a different player,” Silvestre is quoted in TalkSPORT regarding Anthony Martial.
“He had a difficult summer with France — he had a game where he didn’t perform and he was out of the team — and you have to remember the episode of getting his number [nine shirt taken away] for [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic to take. He was not happy about that.”
“We always say, when you have a good first season, it’s hard to [continue performing], and we have to put that on the fact he’s still young and still learning.”
“I hope he keeps patient, and won’t do a Pogba, like he did and head to Juventus.”
