The versatile Ashley Young, who’s seen action at both the left and right back positions down the stretch for Manchester United, is feared to be missing for the rest of the season. Young picked up a hamstring knock last night in United’s 1-0 win at Celta Vigo, the away leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-final.
According to Samuel Luckhurst, of the Manchester Evening News, he will miss the rest of Man United’s season.
Young joins fellow defenders Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in being lost for the rest of the season. The same fate has also befallen striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. (Here’s the full injury report for the Arsenal match on Sunday and the MUFC starting XI prediction as well)
Young was replaced by Chris Smalling in the final minutes Thursday night, despite not even coming on until the 78th minute. This raised the eyebrows of former United defender Rio Ferdinand, who said Ashley Young should be embarrassed for having to be subbed off, despite starting the game on the bench.
Ashley is old school,” he said on BT Sport.
“He’s from the old era where it’s got to be a real injury for him to go off the pitch. I think he is someone who’s an experienced campaigner in that changing room.
“He won’t want to be walking off. To come on as a sub and be substituted, that’s an embarrassment. Your ego takes a bashing.”
