Happy international break Manchester United supporters. The Red Devils will be out of action until November 24th, when they’ll resume their Premier League season with a visit to Sheffield United. Then it won’t be long until festive period fixture congestion ensues.
So let’s take a look at what is currently making the internet rounds, in the world of MUFC, on this news day. For the first set of MUFC news items, posted about ten hours ago, go to this link. We’ll start this round-up with a take, from central defender Victor Lindelof.
The England training ground bust-up between Raheem Sterling and Joe Gomez has been the talk of the entire football world these past couple days. And apparently, the duo have now moved on and moved past it, and manager Gareth Southgate maintains they’re all a family.
Lindelof gave his take on what went down.
“There can be some hot feelings,” the Swedish international told Fotbollskanalen. “There are important matches being played in the league, but when you come to the national team you have to try to let go of those feelings and think of the national team.”
“It is perfectly understandable that there can be a lot of emotions, but of course it is not optimal if you should go in and start quarreling. I don’t know the whole situation so I can’t stand here and say who was right or who was wrong.”
It’s undeniable just how much Anthony Martial means to United and their attack. You can especially see it in the impact he has had on Marcus Rashford. Back-up goalkeeper Sergio Romero was hip to the talents of the Frenchman long before he moved over on 2015 summer transfer window deadline day from Monaco.
In the process, Martial broke the then record transfer fee for a teenage footballer.
Romero was on loan to Martial’s former club from Sampdoria and just one year later he made the move to Old Trafford himself.
The reserve said he told United’s three Spanish players at the time, David De Gea, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, a little secret, about an up-and-coming kid that will turn heads.
Romero said to Utd Unscripted (h/t Daily Mirror): “Back in 2015, not long after I joined United, I was chatting with Ander Herrera, David De Gea and Juan Mata.”
“I let them in on a secret. ‘There’s a kid at Monaco. Anthony Martial. For sure, in a short while, you’ll all be talking about him’. I’d known about Anthony for two years. In the 2013/14 season, I went to AS Monaco on loan for a year from Sampdoria in Italy.
“Anthony was still very young, just a kid – I think he was 17 years old at that time – but you could already see that he was that he was a special player with lots of class and lots of talent. The kid was a natural. You’d just be amazed at the things he would do in the training sessions.”
Finally, book-ending this round-up with central defenders, Chris Smalling is on loan at AS Roma and he’s starting to settle into his new life in Italy.
However, he sometimes also misses Old Trafford, and he opened up on that in an interview with TalkSPORT.
