Man United Legend Wayne Rooney Agrees to Join MLS Club D.C. United

WAYNE ROONEY

It appears that we will now have three members of the 2016-17 Manchester United squad playing in Major League Soccer this season. Wayne Rooney, according to multiple reports, has reached an agreement in principle, worth £12 million ($16 million) to leave Everton and join D.C. United.

Wazza, 32, is crossing the pond to join the L.A. Galaxy’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 36, and the Chicago Fire’s Bastian Schweinsteiger, 33, in American MLS. Call it a “pipeline,” I guess.

Wayne Rooney moving to the MLS one year after rejoining Everton. Rather sad to see him completely gone from England, but his time has been up at the top level for a number of years now. Will go down as a Premier League legend.

The BBC reports that the representatives of Wayne Rooney “have been in the US to negotiate terms and the former England skipper is willing to leave the Premier League club.”

While Sky Sports claims “this latest deal was drafted over the past seven weeks, during several visits to the States by Stretford alongside DC United’s Chief Executive Jason Levein.”

This a HUGE get for the United who play in the capital of the USA, as D.C. are currently in dead last place right now in the MLS Eastern Conference.

D.C. United are actually the worst overall team, according to points accumulated this season, in the entire 23 team league. Now they’re getting “The White Pele,” a man who with so many career honors it’s impossible to list them all out.

Wayne Rooney is the all time leading scorer in both Manchester United and England history.

During a few of his preseason summer tour matches with the Red Devils these past few seasons, Rooney was asked about possibly joining the MLS someday in prematch news conferences. He was generally positive about the concept, and now the day has almost arrived.
