Jurgen Klopp has guided Liverpool to three wins in three games, and thus the Reds have taken all nine possible points from their first three matches this season. LFC are one of four Premier League sides to win their first three, and their +7 goal differential currently places them top of the table.
There is certainly no shortage of topics to discuss today, in the wake of the Reds’ fast start. Let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet this Thursday.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker has said that his more aggressive tactics, some of which have been deemed risky by many football observers, are neither meant to provoke his rivals nor for showboating purposes. There is a calculated method to his madness, he maintains.
“It is already calculated. I take risks,” said the Brazilian.
“Fans with heart problems have to be careful! But on the pitch, as I said before, I do not try to make of fun of a rival. It’s not to show that I can do this or that, but to help the team. It is to achieve targets.”
“I make a dribble or a simple pass, knowing that if I lose the ball near the area the opponent can score. I am aware of what I do on the pitch, but I always do it to help the team. That’s why occasionally I also boot the ball into the stands.”
In sticking with goalkeeper news, Loris Karius, who is now off on a two year loan spell at Turkish side Besiktas, says that manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to keep him.
“He (Klopp) told me he would like to have me in the squad because he wants to have the best quality players,” said Karius. “But I spoke to him and asked him for my wish. It is important to me to play for Besiktas. I talked with him for a long time and he understood my situation.”
“I think it was a good deal for everyone. He wished me well but he said he would have liked to keep me.”
The other main goalkeeper on the roster, Simon Mignolet, called the Karius transfer strange. Mignolet hoped that he would be the back-up keeper who got transferred to a team where first team football was available. However, Liverpool were not going to sell both reserve shot stoppers, only one, and thus Mignolet stays to be the No. 2.
Finally, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will return to the England squad after missing the 2018 World Cup in Russia due to injury. The roster announcement was made just a little more than an hour ago.
