The deal is finally done! All the Is are dotted and all the Ts crossed, and at very long last it’s officially official. Egyptian Winger Mohamed Salah, it was initially reported this past weekend, was set to undergo his Liverpool medical and complete the move to Anfield on Tuesday.

Then the process was held up, and new reports claimed it was all going to go down on Wednesday.

Well, happy very very late on Thursday, because now we can all finally say #AnnouncedSalah

Liverpool just tweeted out the photos and videos of Salah in his new red shirt, along with links to the posts on their official website, only one hour ago. He becomes the second player signed by Anfield this summer, behind only former Chelsea man Dominic Solanke. He’ll wear #11 with Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah comes over from AS Roma for a fee of £39 million.

That surpasses not just Sadio Mane for the most expensive African player signed, but also Christian Benteke, to become the most expensive acquisition in club history. Spoiler alert- that’s a record which is going to get broken over and over again in the near future, and there will likely be less time passing with each instance of it being broken.

Here’s an excerpt from the club statement, with the following quote attributed to Salah:

“We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100 per cent to win something. Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us.”

A statement attributed to Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp reads:

“He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country. His record in Italy has been outstanding and he possesses qualities that will enhance our team and squad. I have followed him since he emerged at Basel and he has matured into a really good player.”

"Mohamed has the perfect mix of experience and potential – this is really exciting."

The arrival of Mohamed Salah is a huge deal, but it might just only be the start of a very news-worthy summer transfer window at Anfield.
