Liverpool announced today that they will host their final Memorial service at the Anfield stadium for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster this April. Margaret Aspinall, who heads the Hillsborough Family Support Group: ”it is likely that the inquests will be concluded before the anniversary so this final memorial service will provide the families with some closure.”
She also added her hopes that people ”continue to remember the 96 in their own perhaps more private way.”
It’s a tragedy that inspired perhaps the most compelling ESPN 30 for 30 documentary of all time- Hillsborough
Bells in Liverpool tolled 96 times as the city remembered those who died 26 years ago in the Hillsborough disaster this past April 15th. They rang during a minute’s silence at 15:06 BST, the moment the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest was halted on 15 April 1989.
Hillsborough is a topic we take very seriously here as we’ve followed the still ongoing inquests quite closely and do our best to try and keep those who aren’t already informed of the latest developments in the process. And again you really should see the ESPN 30 for 30 about the disaster, because it’s the most moving film in the series.
