Wenger believes Alexis Sanchez is at the same level as Luis Suarez

Alexis Sanchez is right up there with Barcelona scoring sensation Luis Suarez, claims Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger. That’s a really bold statement, and most people wouldn’t exactly buy such an analogy, at least not immediately. However, you have to love the way Wenger publicly supports his player.

“Sanchez and Suarez are at the same level,” Wenger said to the media. “Suarez is a central striker and Sanchez is more a wide player who likes to go up and down and is involved in dribbling, but they have similarities.

“Sanchez has that desire to go forward and provoke, he is a guy who provokes chaos in the defences because he has a go at them. He does not go across, he goes straight. His desire to go forward, to provoke opponents, to run at people, creates danger.

“And he plays to win in every single game. I have had players like that before, players who want to win so much, but he has the style as well.

“What Sanchez has is that, in the first two yards, he is lightning-quick. He has that explosive attitude linked with his spirit and that makes him even more spectacular,” Wenger continued.

The two players have some connections; of sorts. Sanchez left Barcelona for Arsenal last summer, as he was the Gunners biggest splash signing of summer 2014. Liverpool were supposedly interested in his services.

Suarez went the other way, leaving Liverpool for Barca, after the Reds reportedly turned down a Gunners offer for the polarizing Uruguayan. Alexis Sanchez and Luis Suarez make for a timely storyline as Arsenal and Liverpool meet Monday night. Wenger also said yesterday that he feels pressured to bring in some new players before the transfer window closes. You can read that here
