Manchester United only had one full day to prepare for their Premier League fixture at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and it certainly showed. United traveled back from Bern, Switzerland on Thursday, after having soundly defeated Young Boys in UEFA Champions League group stage play.
United had won three in a row, across all competitions, on the road after a miserable home loss to Tottenham Hotspur on August 27th. United and Wolverhampton battled to a 1-1 draw yesterday, and after the match manager Jose Mourinho said the result was even worse than the loss to Spurs nearly a month ago.
“Not a good performance, not a good result,” Mourinho said in his post match news conference.

Mourinho then proceeded to slam his team’s effort and attitude.
“A fair result. Wolves, by the way, they faced the game, I think they deserve it. They play like I like to play which is like the World Cup final. That is the attitude I like my teams to have in every match,” he continued.
“We didn’t have that. They did. That attitude made a difference.”
“Come on, this is something you learn when you are a kid in the academy, you don’t need experiences at the highest level to learn that. It is a basic law of football, you have to play at the maximum of your potential.”
“It is a bit of a contradiction but I’m more disappointed today than I was against Tottenham. Against Tottenham we lost the game but I liked very very much my team’s performance. Of course, we had a better result and one point is better than zero. But I did not like my team.”

The result left United in sixth place, and with another quick turnaround to action. They’ll commence their League Cup campaign on Tuesday night, with a third round clash against Derby County.
