Harry Kane Nearing Match Fitness Says Mauricio Pochettino

The gruesome ankle injury that Harry Kane suffered in the home loss to Manchester United on January 13 was initially regarded to be serious enough that it would keep him out of action until at least March. Speaking ahead of the Sunday’s home fixture against Leicester City, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said that Kane is recovering quickly and that he’s nearing a return to match fitness.

While Pochettino ruled him out of the weekend match versus the Foxes, and next Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 battle against Borussia Dortmund, he said Kane might be in contention for the league clash at Burnley on the 23rd.

“He’s doing well, fantastic,” said Pochettino at his Friday news conference.

“You know him well, we need to stop everyday because he wants to be ahead of his recovery. He’s very optimistic and his determination to play as soon as possible is unbelievable.

“He’s doing well, he’s nearly ready to play but we need to be realistic too and in between all the areas to take the best decision.

“I think he’s so close to come back. Not for Sunday or Wednesday, but we will see after.”

If Harry Kane can return for that match against the Clarets in two weeks time that would be absolutely huge because of the two matches which follow on the schedule. Tottenham faces Chelsea in league play just four days after Burnley, followed by a north London derby against Arsenal three days after the Chelsea clash.
