Former Chelsea Boss Antonio Conte Confirms Move to Inter Milan

Inter Milan has confirmed today that former Italy, Chelsea and Juventus boss Antonio Conte will succeed Luciano Spalletti as the next manager of the club.

“A new chapter in my life is beginning, I’m really excited,” Conte said in a statement on the official Inter website.

“I have chosen Inter because of the Club it is, because of the project’s sound basis and how ambitious it is. Because of Inter’s history.”

“I was struck by the Club’s transparency and the desire to bring Inter back to where it belongs.”

Spalletti was sacked after just two years in charge at Inter, the same amount of time that Conte spent at both Chelsea and the Italian national team. The Nerazzurri finished fourth in Serie A this past season and didn’t secure Champions League qualification until the final day of the season, when they accomplished a 2-1 win over Empoli.

It is thought that UCL qualification needed to be ensured before Conte would take the job. The Italian has won silverware at both Juve and Stamford Bridge, but doing so in Milan will be a tremendous challenge to say the least.

It is widely believed that Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, who he tried to sign while he was at Chelsea, will be his first summer signing.

Lukaku could replace the expected to depart Mauro Icardi, and thus the required rebuilding project at Inter will commence.
