Pedro has extended his contract with Chelsea Football Club, and the opportunity to work under new management this season means that it really could be his time to shine.

“It is very good for me, I am really happy here in the club, with my team-mates, the supporters and the club in general,” said the Spaniard who inked a one year extension to deal that will now keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2020.

“It’s important for me to continue with Chelsea, I am comfortable here and want to win new titles and trophies. I want to help the team, score goals, and I repeat, I am really happy.”

Every time you have a regime change at a football club, you also see a significant amount of turnover in regards to lineups, rotations and player roles.

The 2018-19 season provides an opportunity for the 31-year-old, as Maurizio Sarri takes over from Antonio Conte, and with that a formation switch is imminent. Conte often liked to go with a back three and typically it was in a 3-4-3.  However, the 4-3-3 that Sarri likes to employ would get Pedro back on either flank, and that plays to his strengths.

This preseason, we’ve already seen glimpses of how he could flourish this year, with his goals against Perth Glory and Inter Milan. Pedro and Chelsea face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday. They open their regular season slate a week from Saturday against Huddersfield Town.
