As polarizing a figure he truly is, Chelsea FC striker Diego Costa sure can “ball.” He’s one of the EPL’s most dangerous scorers, and he’s turned in a season that ranks among the most productive and valuable, of any player in the league this season.
Thus he’s always attracting the interest of other teams, and naturally quite often the subject of transfer rumors. Today, he made comments that fueled more transfer speculation.
“I have two years of my contract left,” Diego Costa told SFR Sport.
“I am always very honest with the people around me. I always say that I am very happy at Chelsea. The club do a lot for me, the fans, my teammates and this is a winning team, which motivates you to be there a long time more.”
“I’m happy at Chelsea. But I’m not saying I’m happy with my life in London, because that is something totally different — the one thing has nothing to do with the other.”
So while Costa indicated he’s happy at Chelsea, the same cannot be said for his feelings on living and working the Great Britain capital.
In February, the Chinese Super League’s Tijan Quanian offered Costa an egregiously exorbitant contract, £500,000 per week, $36,000,000 per year. Last summer, media consistently linked Diego Costa with a potential return to Atletico Madrid. Also, early 2017 saw Diego Costa have a row with Blues Manager Antonio Conte, which led to his benching, training alone, and then his subsequent reinstatement.
There comes a point where Conte could be running out of patience with him, and eventually his days at Chelsea could be numbered. Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata is already supposedly being tabbed as the replacement; according to transfer rumors.
Costa is a guy you love when he’s on your side, and a guy you detest when he’s against you, but no matter whether you love him or hate him, or feel ambivalent, you got to admit that he can score.
