Chelsea FC goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has down played the stories linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid. He made public statements indicating that he would like to stay with the Blues. According to a report published today, Stamford Bridge will compensate him appropriately to make sure that he does so.
Likewise with Eden Hazard, who’s also receiving major interest from Real. The Daily Mirror claims that Chelsea will increase the paygrade for both players.
The Mirror’s John Cross writes:
“Hazard signed a new £200,000-a-week contract two years ago, but is likely to be offered a significant improvement on those terms to make sure he stays at Stamford Bridge…Courtois is also set to join the big pay-league with a £200,000-a-week deal.”
As for Hazard, the 2014-16 PFA Player of the Year slumped last season, as then Manager Jose Mourinho lost the dressing room, and found himself sacked. Hazard saw his production drop substantially and Chelsea, under interim manager Guus Hiddink, eventually salvaged a tenth place finish.
However, in the first season under Antonio Conte, the Blues are running away with the Premier League title and Eden Hazard has gotten his groove back. He’s become one of Europe’s biggest stars, and the world’s biggest clubs find him a very hot commodity these days.
