Chelsea Football Club announced the arrival of their second signing of the summer transfer window today- veteran goalkeeper Rob Green to a one year contract. This transaction is somewhat similar to Manchester United’s adding Lee Grant earlier this window- an older shot stopper is added to the squad to provide depth among the backup goalkeepers on the roster.
The addition of Rob Green can’t really be interpreted, or at least it seems, as a signal relating to the Thibaut Courtois-Real Madrid transfer rumor narrative.
To hear Chelsea tell it, Courtois is staying put this summer.

Also, this deal effectively ends all transfer speculation linking Manchester City man Joe Hart with a move to Stamford Bridge.
“It has been a whirlwind 24 hours. You are thinking about your career and where you want to go and then you get a phone call like this, and it is a short conversation,” the 38-year-old Green told the club website.
“It has been a pretty dramatic time for me and I can’t wait to get started. I am absolutely delighted and it is a thrill and an honour to be here.”
Here’s his first interview as a member of the club. Rob Green is just the second addition this window, with Napoli midfielder Jorginho being the first.
