The offseason is here for Chelsea FC, and that means the Blues won’t be reunited again until training camp commences in July. However, it promises to be a very busy summer with a whole lot of topics to discuss.
Let’s take a spin through Thursday’s headlines.
-Newly minted Arsenal boss Unai Emery has placed a £17.4 million ($23M) bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz. The Brazilian back who returned to Stamford Bridge on summer transfer window deadline day 2016 fell way out of favor in 2018, losing his place to Andreas Christensen.
Perhaps a move to their bitter, cross town rivals could restart his career? Here’s more on the situation via the Daily Mirror.
Luiz broke the world transfer fee record £50 million for a defender when Chelsea sold him to Paris Saint-Germain in 2014. They brought him back two years later for £20 million less.
-Center back Matt Miazga is still a Chelsea man, but he’s spent the last two seasons on loan with Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse. What will become of him now? Vitesse would like him back for another season, but MSG Network reports that Miazga is wanted by teams in the Premier League and the Bundesliga.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the 22-year-old American international this summer. He suffered through a scary, bloody collision with Chelsea and France striker Olivier Giroud in a France-USA friendly.
-Finally, Laurent Blanc continues to be linked as Antonio Conte’s potential replacement, but of course Conte still remains on the job. Blanc has said in an interview with Le Monde that he would like to prove himself as a manager outside of France.
