Chelsea FC on the Brink of Making Frank Lampard their New Manager

The Chelsea coaches carousel is spinning rapidly on this Friday with two major transactions currently in the works. According to The Telegraph, Frank Lampard is set to become the next manager at Stamford Bridge, and “sources close to Chelsea believe the appointment of the 40-year-old is now inevitable.”

The wheels are in motion for a feel good story about a club legend landing his dream job, once Chelsea provide a release fee of £4 million to Derby County for Lampard. The outgoing money will be provided by the income from Juventus, who will reportedly give Chelsea £5 million for the release of Maurizio Sarri.

In his first and only season in charge at Derby, he lead them to a sixth place in the Championship, which included an appearance in the Championship playoff final, where they lost to Aston Villa. The Romford London native is Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer, having netted 147 times in 429 appearances during his career in west London, which spanned from 2001-2014.

His appointment will certainly draw a lot of comparisons to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, where you also have a former player, who is very young and inexperienced, taking over the reigns.

It’s not just a special opportunity for the Romford, London native who scored 29 times in 106 appearances for the England national team.

For Sarri, he gets a chance to come back home to Italy and coach the biggest club team in the nation after having just won his first trophy as a manager.
