Arsene Wenger Final Home Game Program Notes Full of Mixed Emotions

As this is the final home game for Arsene Wenger as manager at Arsenal, it’s a day full of conflicting emotions. Wenger’s final set of match program notes certainly reflect that, as it’s truly a mixed bag of emotion. The Frenchman, finishing out his 22nd year on the job said he expects “today will be dominated by sadness.”

That’s certainly not present in the box score, as the Gunners are absolutely punishing a pretty good Burnley team, as they are currently pounding then 5-0 in the 78′. Truly the team is sending the 66-year-old off in style, emotionally charged from the meaning of the day as they appreciate all that he’s done for the club.

Entitled 22 Gun Salut, with the hash tag #MerciArsene here is an excerpt of his program notes. To read more, click on the tweet below and then click on expand the thread, which covers the highlights.

“It’s the end of a long story for me at Arsenal. But I will also feel grateful for having led this club – that I cherish so much – for such a long time. …  I tried to commit completely, for so many years, to make people happy and I wish just that people who love this club will be happy in the future and get what they really want and love.

“I’ve met people for whom I am the only Arsenal manager they have known, so now this is a good opportunity for the club to have new people and new ideas to continue to move the club forward, which is what I’ve tried to do my whole life.
