Arsene Wenger supposedly tracking “the next Lionel Messi”

Yet again this season Arsene Wenger is putting together one brilliant half season, and one lackluster half-season together into one year. It’s why Arsenal are again staying in Champions League for yet another season, but not getting any major silverware.

Wenger and company just can’t get over the hump to go from top four to title. Maybe they finally will if they can sign the next Lionel Messi. Here’s yet another Argentinian to earn that nickname.

We’ve had a lot of Messi successors; there’s even that famous kid who was dubbed the “Snow Messi.”

The Telegraph says that the Gunner are interested in signing Velez Sarsfield’s 16-year-old starlet Maxi Romero, and that Arsene Wenger has already met with the player’s agent, Rolando Zarate.

“I met with Arsene Wenger twice in London,” Zarate said.

“They heard about Maxi through their scouts in South America. He is the player who has most impressed him. Arsenal agreed to our main terms: that the player remains at Velez for two more years. Maxi is going to complete his apprenticeship at a great club like Velez.”

Even if this happens, Lionel Messi is an awful lot of hype to live up to. Hat tip ESPN FC
