The offseason is here for Arsenal FC, and that means the Gunners squad won’t be reunited again until training camp commences in July. However, it’s been a very busy summer already, and we’re only just getting warmed up.
It’s certainly going to be an exciting transfer window at the Emirates, with a whole lot of topics to discuss. Let’s take a spin through Tuesday’s headlines.
-Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Sampdoria to acquire midfielder Lucas Torreira, on a deal that would be said to cost $35 million (£26.2m). The 22-year-old Torreira is a box-to-box guy who can also drop back in the middle of the park. The BBC has more on the Uruguay international and the Gunners transfer window as well, as the publication states:
“Arsenal are also keen to recruit a goalkeeper this summer. No agreement has been reached yet for Torreira, who is in Russia for the World Cup.”
Strengthening the central midfield is reportedly priority number one this summer at the Emirates, and Torreira would certainly help to try and fill that need, but the very first signing of the Unai Emery era was a defender- former Juventus man Stephan Lichtsteiner, who moved over on a free.
The second signing will very likely be another addition to the back line, Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The Daily Mail has more on the BVB man.
Arsenal have seen two well known players leave the Emirates this summer, injury riddled midfielder Santi Cazorla, who served admirably with the team for six seasons and the retiring German international Per Mertesacker.
