Adam Lallana Injury Looks “Really Serious,” Says Jurgen Klopp

The extremely unfortunate and very troubled season for Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana continued today as he was stretchered off just five minutes after entering the Reds 2-1 win at Crystal Palace. A long term thigh injury has limited Lallana to just 13 appearances across all competitions this season, and Saturday saw him suffer a new hamstring problem that could be quite serious.

Lallana was spotted departing Selhurst Park on crutches, and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed concern over how bad the injury might be, once it has been fully assessed.

“I’ve not spoken to him, but I’ve seen him and it is not good,” Klopp said.

“We don’t know exactly what he has (it’s a hamstring injury) but from the first moment I saw him go down it looked like something really serious.”

“It looks like something with the muscle, we can’t make any further assessments so far. We will do that as quick as possible.”

Klopp was asked if Lallana’s latest setback could harm his World Cup chances with the England National team.

“It’s absolutely too early [to tell]; it wouldn’t be nice if you ask that so early after consequences,” Klopp responded. “It’s absolutely bad, but we don’t know exactly what it is yet. In the first moments I saw him it looked really serious to be honest. It looks like something with the muscle.

“He’s our friend, our boy, our mate, our player, having a difficult season already.

“Maybe one of the biggest achievements of that team is that they could play a season so far like they have played without Adam Lallana. I never would have thought it’s possible,” Klopp continued.

“And so we are all desperately waiting for him, and now coming step by step back, and now this — it’s a big, big blow for us.”
