Corey Robinson is one of the many celebrity offspring who have played football for Notre Dame during the Brian Kelly era. The son of “The Admiral” himself, NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson, announced that he has decided to end his career with the Fighting Irish, due to concussions.

He will remain with the team as a student assistant coach.

Corey Robinson said via a statement:

“After much contemplation and prayer, I have decided not to continue playing football due to multiple concussions.  I couldn’t have come to this difficult personal decision without the incredible support from so many within the Notre Dame football program.”

Robinson has been diagnosed with three concussions in the past year. He passed up an opportunity to graduate in the spring in order to return to school so that he could run for student body president. He won, and thus became the first Notre Dame football player elected student body president in school history.

Robinson, who plays 10 musical instruments, was an Academic All-American in 2014. He also applied for a Rhodes Scholarship, but was denied. He said he plans to keep applying every year until he is accepted, or he reaches the age limit of 25.

In 2014, Corey Robinson developed into a solid #2 receiver for the Fighting Irish, but last year he fell down the pecking order due to injuries. Had he decided to exercise his final year of eligibility, he would have been the Irish’s leading returning receiver.

Instead he finishes his ND career with 65 catches for 896 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.

During Corey Robinson’s career he played alongside the sons of Jon Bon Jovi, Torii Hunter and Cris Collinsworth at Notre Dame.
