Nebraska Cornhuskers QB Tommy Armstrong Jr: better than you think

“Tommy’s growing. He’s getting better,” said Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini of his starting quarterback.

“He’s not the finished product yet, but I don’t know a quarterback who is after playing a year and a half.”

Tommy Armstrong Jr isn’t going to be all league this year, but he did make three huge throws on third down for the Huskers that were critical for sustaining drives and OWNING Northwestern in the second half.

And hey, he’s got a much more sightly throwing motion than Taylor Martinez. Crazy as sounds Armstrong is already 15th on the NU all time passing list. Of course, that’s as much indicative of Nebraska football moving into the modern era on offense rather slowly than it is Tommy Armstrong Jr being a prolific passer.

All those wishbone, option, option-veer offenses of many years ago didn’t rack up passing statistics. And it really wasn’t until around the Joe Ganz era that Nebraska really started to air it out.

Armstrong completed 18-of-29 passes for 221 yards in tonight’s game, while rushing 10 times for 55 yards. With his 276 yards of total offense, Armstrong increased his season total offense total to 2,028 yards.
