Taylor Anderson, the girlfriend of Sacramento Kings shooting guard Nik Stauskas is the latest participant of the celebrity prom date routine. To be more specific, the social media inspired celebrity prom date. Technically, Stauskas is the celebrity here, as the former Michigan Wolverines shooting guard was last year’s Big Ten Player of the Year, and he was the #8 overall pick in the draft.
However, Taylor Anderson is more famous. Or “internet famous” I guess.
You can call Stauskas-Anderson the basketball version of Blake Bortles and Lindsey Duke. Anyway, Jaime Guerra, a senior at Woodhaven High School in the south suburbs of Detroit asked the Kings lottery pick how many retweets on Twitter would be required in order to have Taylor Anderson be his high school prom date this spring.
The Canadian sharp-shooter said 10,000. Anderson agreed to the arrangement. Guerra reached out to some professional athletes via social media, and he hit the number within a couple of hours.
Well done, kid! Well done.
Oh, and to quote Springfield’s leading newsman Kent Brockman, “this isn’t news.”
However, it does give us an excuse to post Taylor Anderson pictures.
