Manchester United may break the American soccer attendance record on August 2nd. United takes on Real Madrid at Michigan Stadium in the International Champions Cup. “The Big House” is known for having the highest capacity of any stadium in the United States and among the most in the world.
Located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, it’s the home to Michigan Wolverines football and seats 109,901 for college football. The capacity will be less for soccer. Some seats may be lost as the field will have to widened to meet international soccer standards.
The American soccer attendance record is 101,799 at the Rose Bowl in 1984. It was the Los Angeles Summer Olympics gold-medal game between France and Brazil. By the way, Detroit-based (Ann Arbor is a suburb of Detroit) Chevrolet will become Man United’s kit sponsor next season. So there’s that.
