Embattled Indiana Hoosiers Head Coach Bill Lynch will officially learn his fate in a couple hours. The decision to retain or fire him (and we are 99% sure it will be to fire him) will be announced around 5PM ET tonight as Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass will host a press conference to discuss the future of the Indiana University football program.
This decision just became much less cut and dry with IU’s win over their arch-rival, the Purdue Boilermakers yesterday. (Yet know a few more outlets are reporting it has already been made, and he’s gone). The win kept the Hoosiers from going winless in Big Ten play but also undefeated in the non-conference slate. I’m not sure if that’s some kind of record, but it certainly sounds like it could be.
And that fact is a loud statement about the weakness of IU’s scheduling. And a bit ripe with unintentional comedy.

So what’s going to happen tonight? Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star has a must-read piece breaking it down:
“I’ll sit down with Bill and we’ll evaluate things,” Glass said, surrounded by happy, woofing players who were carrying the Bucket toward their locker room.
Whatever happens, it will happen quickly. Glass won’t let Lynch twist in the wind. It’s a.) unfair to Lynch, and, b.) unfair to the program which, if there’s going to be a change, needs to get on with the replacement search as soon as humanly possible.
On paper, Glass has those three options, but there are really only two that make any sense.
Extend him or fire him. All or nothing.
