It’s obvious that I love me some Kain Colter. And I’m going to miss me some Kain Colter. I still remember when his college football career was born on New Year’s Day 2011 in the bowl game whose name I can’t remember, but it was held in The Cotton Bowl. And now it’s over….sort of. Colter has the Senior Bowl; and a chance to prove his NFL Draft stock.
I recently asked Mel Kiper Jr. on conference call about Big Ten players with pro potential, and the NFL Draft expert says he sees Kain as a wide receiver prospect, in the Hines Ward mold.
It was a bummer for him to not play in the LOL Bowl, in the final Northwestern football game. Terrible for him to go out that way, but his team did win. And Kain Colter tweeted:
Glad we finished with a W. It’s hard to believe I won’t put on that uniform anymore. I’m proud to be a wildcat and will always bleed purple!

I only asked one question today in the postgame press conference. And it was to Northwestern Coach Pat Fitzgerald. Here’s the q&a:
How did Kain Colter deal with not being able to play today?
“He was pretty emotional before the game. He’s meant so much for the program and I don’t want to sit here and cry in front of you but he’s a young man, like Nathan Scheelhaase, that’s what’s right about college football. I told Nathan after the game I’ve had a ton of respect for him since the day he came in here to Champaign. Those are two of the most special young people in college football. This conference is going to miss both those guys, but, from our standpoint, our team is really going to miss Kain from a standpoint of everything. He’s a great leader, he’s a great worker and he’s obviously incredibly talented.”
Wide receiver Christian Jones, who had a breakout, career game today with 13 catches 182 yards and 2 TDs. He was asked about Kain Colter. What he said to him
“Just that I love him so much and I’m really sad to see him go,” Jones said.
