Myles Turner of Euless Trinity High School (Texas) was the only uncommitted member of the 2014 McDonald’s All-American class when the game came along. As such he was quite the topic of discussion. The 6-foot-11 Turner, ranked second overall by various recruiting services, had SMU on his list of finalists along with Texas, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Arizona.
However, it’s really just came down to his choosing Texas over Kansas.
So now that he’s with the Longhorns how is his development coming along?
In advance of the Horns’ big showdown against #1 Kentucky, Texas Coach Rick Barnes did a national media conference call
“it’s been going great,” said Barnes.
“We love him, his teammates love him, he’s got all the makings, a worker, a passion for the game. Like a lot of young players he’s anxious.
“Like a lot of players of that caliber, he wants to do it all, and he wants to do it right now, he’s one of those guys as we go along and he learns what we’re doing he’s going to get more and more comfortable.”
Turner is averaging 12.1 ppg so far and his second on the Longhorns in rebounding at 7.1. He blew up vs. St. Francis (PA) whatever that is, I’ve never heard of that team. He scored 25 points on 11-12 from the field including 3-3 from three point land. He also led the Horns versus UT-Arlington with 18. But while he dominated low-majors, he has had issues versus high-majors; scoring just five versus Iowa and California.
Here’s where we have Myles Turner in our latest NBA mock draft
5. Utah-Myles Turner, C, Texas, 7-0, Fr.
A developing big man with incredible athleticism, Myles Turner is just scratching the surface with how good he might be.
