We know that 99.99999999999999999999999999% of the jobs posted on Monster.com or Career Builder.com are either a.) filled 6 months ago b.) thinly veiled pyramid schemes attempting to entice you c.) never existed in the first place d.) a black hole in which all submitted resumes will just vanish after never even seeing human eyes e.) all of the above. Therefore, DePaul using it’s own University job board to find a new head basketball coach is both HILARIOUS and DESPERATE at the same time.
Has this program really fallen this far? Seriously, they went to a Final Four when I was three years old. That’s not exactly recent history, but it wasn’t a lifetime ago either. Here’s what the job posting says a new potential coach’s duties will be:
General Summary
In accordance with the mission of the Department of Athletics, administer the progress and success of the intercollegiate men’s basketball program within the guidelines of the NCAA, the BIG EAST Conference and DePaul University. This will include all pre-season, in-season and post-season activities necessary to the development of a nationally-competitive team.
I don’t know about postseason any time soon, slow down there. They are also looking for someone with 10 years minimum Division 1 Head Coaching experience. Presumably, this is to screen out all the joke resumes they will soon get. And the decision to post the job opening online seems to be completely at odds with what I read on the AP wire yesterday:
DePaul ready to make coach 1 of Big East’s richest

CHICAGO (AP) — DePaul is serious about restoring a once-proud program and is prepared to make its next men’s basketball coach one of the richest in the Big East.
Athletic director Jean Lenti Ponsetto says whoever gets the job could have a salary that “would definitely be in the top half and it would be comparably close to the very top” in the conference.
It’s a sign that DePaul is ready to make a big push after getting knocked around the past few years.
Ponsetto says DePaul is “looking at very high-level, high profile people” and that several candidates are currently head coaches in successful programs.
No one has interviewed.
After I reading both of these, I must ask….is ESPN’s Steve Lavin still in the mix for the job?
