Manchester United Starting XI Prediction vs Arsenal FC

Manchester United had a very uninspiring result at Southampton over the weekend, drawing 2-2 with a side that currently sits in the relegation zone. The Red Devils fell behind 2-0, but battled back to salvage a point, but apparently their opposition wasn’t too thrilled with that result either.

That’s because the south coast club announced the firing of their manager, Mark Hughes, earlier today. Now United come home to face a side with a first year manager, one who has them undefeated in their last 19 across all competitions.

Arsenal FC Starting XI Prediction vs Manchester United

Manchester United hold the all time series lead over Arsenal, but heading into the Wednesday night meeting it’s the Gunners who have all the momentum. Unbeaten in their last 19 across all competitions, manager Unai Emery shouldn’t have any problem getting his team rapidly refocused on the midweek crunch clash following the short turnaround from the latest and very entertaining installment of the North London derby.

However, it will still be a tremendous challenge, as Arsenal have only won three times at Old Trafford in Premier League competition.

Unai Emery Quickly Shifts Focus to Man United After Tottenham Win

unai emery

Sunday brought an extremely consequential and thoroughly enthralling North London derby, but Arsenal manager Unai Emery was quick to move on from the victory.

The Gunners came from behind to beat arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 in the biggest game of the Premier League weekend, but Emery said in his postgame press conference that he was already looking ahead to the midweek clash at Manchester United. In the words of alt-rock band Everclear “so much for the afterglow.”

Paul Pogba Slammed by United Fans, Media for Mind-Boggling Mistakes

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is a top trending term on Twitter right now and it’s for all the wrong reasons. The most expensive player in club history (and the world at the time he was re-acquired in 2016) often looked dazed and confused on the pitch tonight in the Red Devils draw at Southampton.

Getting only the single point from a trip to the St. Mary’s is basically a loss as United were taking on a side that’s currently sitting in the relegation zone. You win, lose or draw as a team, but Paul Pogba looked very disinterested in getting any kind of result today. You know how elite his talents and abilities are as an individual player, so one has to wonder just what was going through his head today as he turned in a performance that was beyond dreadful.

Jose Mourinho Has Extremely Bleak January Transfer Window Outlook

jose mourinho

Manchester United had a very disappointing, to put it mildly, summer transfer window. Manager Jose Mourinho was on an aggressive hunt to upgrade the centre back position, but none of those targets ever came over to Old Trafford. There are various reasons why United weren’t able to secure a new and better central defender, with a narrative starting to emerge of United not being the ultra-attractive destination it used to be.

It could be that some players don’t want to work under Mourinho. Or it could be that the club doesn’t have the cachet it once did.

Alexis Sanchez out “a Long Time” with “Aggressive Muscular Injury”

alexis sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has just not been himself since he moved over to Manchester United from Arsenal last January, and he’s not going to have an opportunity to come correct any time soon. The Chilean has failed to produce since making the switch to Old Trafford, and now he faces a spell of potentially six weeks on the sidelines due to a major hamstring injury.

More specifics will be known, and a potential timeline for his return defined once the team gets the results of his scans, but manager Jose Mourinho gave a very detailed answer about the seriousness of the injury Sanchez suffered in training on Thursday.  “It is an aggressive muscular injury,” Mourinho said at his Friday news conference.

Manchester United Activate Option to Extend David de Gea Another Year

david de gea

On Tuesday night, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said his club must ensure that David de Gea, “the best goalkeeper in the world,” stays with the club long term.

Following a very dominant performance, in which the Spaniard registered a clean sheet versus Young Boys in a 1-0 win that clinched United’s place in the UEFA Champions League knockout round, Mourinho said that De Gea wants to stay put, and that his camp and the club are working on getting a deal in place.

Manchester United Starting XI Prediction vs Southampton FC

manchester united line up

Manchester United are off to a very rough start this Premier League season. With only 21 points from a possible 39, manager Jose Mourinho (who for some reason felt the need to remind everyone of his past European accomplishments, unprompted, on Tuesday night) is doing a job, at least thus far, which is among the worst in recent club history.

You can forget about the league title this season, and going forward they need to pick up all the points they can and when they can in order to secure a top four finish. They are playing a team very close to the bottom of the table in Southampton this weekend, and getting anything less than three points from their trip to the south coast would be considered disastrous.

Man United vs Southampton FC Injury Report: Lindelof, Rojo, Darmian, Ings, Target

When Manchester United visit Southampton FC on Saturday, it’ll be a match-up of two teams that really need to get the ball rolling now if they are to realize their goals of this Premier League season. United are seven points off the pace for the top four, but sitting in seventh place, they need to leapfrog a couple teams in order to get back in next season’s UCL qualifying position.

Given their astronomical payroll, finishing outside the top four is way beyond unacceptable. For Southampton, they currently sit in the final relegation position of 18th. They are just one point behind Burnley for safety, but after sweating out the very real prospect of the drop last season up until the very end, they don’t want to experience that anxiety again this season.

Why Did Jose Mourinho Feel the Need to Boast About His Past Accomplishments?

jose mourinho

After Manchester United booked their passage through to the UEFA Champions League knockout round yesterday, with a 1-0 win over Young Boys at home, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho felt the need to toot his own horn.

In his post match press conference, he said, unprompted: “For some of my lovers I just want to say: for the ones that like stats, 14 times in the Champions League, 14 times qualified through the group phases. Never one of my teams stayed behind in the group phase.”

Jose Mourinho Says World’s “Best Goalkeeper” David de Gea Must Stay

After Manchester United edged out Young Boys 1-0 in yet another Old Trafford snooze fest, Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho declared his No. 1 David de Gea “the best goalkeeper in the world.”

The victory secured a place in the UEFA Champions League knockout round for United. Mourinho also said the Spanish international in goal, who will be out of contract in 2020, wants to stay put. De Gea, reportedly a target of both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, certainly turned in a man of the match performance tonight against the Swiss side.
