NASCAR Machinist loses brother in Boston Shootings

The Boston shootings last night claimed the life of Boston Police Officer Sean Collier, brother of Andrew Collier, a machinist for Hendrick Motorsports.  One of NASCAR ‘s most well-known organizations, Hendrick Motorsports has garnered ten Sprint Cup Series owners and drivers championships, 211 Sprint Cup Series victories, 29 Nationwide Series wins, and 25 Camping World Truck Series victories.

The team currently fields some of the most popular drivers in NASCAR including Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Sean Collier, 26, of Somerville, Mass., died Thursday night after two men fired gunshots at Collier, who responded to a disturbance on the MIT campus. He’s yet another victim of the Boston shootings and Boston bombings this week that have disturbed and saddened us all. And it’s put the city of Boston currently on lockdown.  The Boston Bruins contest vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight and the Red Sox taking on the K.C. Royals likely won’t happen tonight.

MLB and NHL games are really insignificant at a time of the Boston shootings and Boston bombings. This is unprecedented! An entire major city and large metropolitan area shut down.

Here’s the statement from Hendrick Motorsports about Collier:

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Hendrick Motorsports are with Andrew Collier and his family. Andrew, a machinist in the Hendrick Motorsports engine department, tragically lost his brother, Officer Sean Collier, last night in Cambridge, Mass. We ask that the family’s privacy be considered during this difficult time.

Andrew, 25, joined Hendrick Motorsports in September 2008.
