It’s a uniquely tragic story on par with legendary college basketball player Hank Gathers. Just like the Loyola Marymount star, Wes Leonard of Fennville High School in Michigan collapsed on the basketball court, and was pronounced dead at the hospital hours later.
Leonard made a game winning lay-up to preserve Fennville’s perfect season, then collapsed. CPR attended to him but it was too little, too late. The cause of death is unknown. Leonard was also quarterback of the football team.
