Newcastle United Team News at Leeds: Amar Dedic, Ewen Jaouen

Newcastle United travel to Leeds United in a matchup of two sides that are surprisingly on the first page of the Premier League standings right now. Leeds have found themselves going back and forth between the Premiership and the Championship over the past decade, or thereabouts, while Newcastle are in a major rebuild, following a massively disappointing season. Right back Amar Dedic should be a key cog in that Geordies rebuild, as he’s developed into a major player for the revamped side.

Dedic is a doubt for the match on Monday night, due to a hamstring injury. First year Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle gave the following update to the media, doing so while making it known that he likes to keep injury news close to the vest:

“I treat these things really confidential, and I hope my staff too… that nothing comes out because first of all it’s about the player and it’s about his health. But what I said after Millwall – it doesn’t look too serious.”

So Amar Dedic should not be out for too long.

And you have to credit Jaissle for being straightforward about the fact that he won’t be too informational in discussing player injuries.

Almost all coaches are like that, but instead of telling you how they’re going to be covert, they just obfuscate instead.

The other major fitness concern for Newcastle, right now, is first choice goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen. He’s been out of the lineup lately, with an ankle twist, and faces a late fitness test for this one.

Otherwise the injury/fitness/availability situation remains the same with the Tyneside club, as Dan Burn, William Osula and Joelinton all remain sidelined as longer-term injury absentees.
