We now have more clarification on the specific injury that has been afflicting Moises Caicedo as of late. The Ecuadorian midfielder is/has been dealing with a calf injury.

“He has a problem in his calf,” Blues boss Xabi Alonso said on Tuesday. “It was the same one he had before Brighton.

“I wanted to have Moi [for that game]. Probably, it was my mistake to push him too early, so that’s why I’m cautious now not to make the same mistake.”

Caicedo is 50/50 for the game on Saturday. Meanwhile we’ll see what’s going on with Marco Palestra, as we continue waiting to see him debut in a Chelsea shirt.

“Still not ready to go…not the moment to take too early risk,’ Alonso said of Palestra and his unspecified injury. “We go game-by-game with them, and it’s too early.”

It was thought that Palestra would make his first appearance as a member of the Blues in this one, but now that is actually sounding more doubtful.

Another summer addition with an unspecified injury issue is Emmanuel Emegha.

Alonso was asked about the young striker’s status on Tuesday, to which he responded:

“No, not yet. Ask me on Friday.”

Ok, so there you go. Let’s see what happens when Alonso’s weekly news conference comes up on Friday.

And then finally, Jordan Henderson remains sidelined, with his Chelsea debut still a week or two (at least) away.

“He has been training very well, but still it is frustrating for him that, even being the arm, it is taking that long,” Alonso said of Henderson, and his wrist injury, in midweek.

“I think he is in the last stage of his recovery.”
