Pep Guardiola Bans Alcohol During Manchester City Final Stretch Run

Manchester City stayed in London, one of the biggest and best party cities in the entire world, between Saturday’s FA Cup semifinal win over Brighton and tomorrow night’s Champions League quarterfinal clash at Tottenham Hotspur.

They didn’t stay in the England capital city for the night life. The decision was made in regards to commuting, not carousing, as Pep has placed a total ban on alcohol consumption for his team during the run in. Guardiola has made it known that although he thinks the odds of achieving a quadruple are “almost impossible,” his side will try and staying sober is part of the that initiative.

“It’s not bad!” Guardiola told a news conference on Monday.

“If we want to be in contention for the competitions, we have to make these kind of numbers. It’s really good, but we don’t have time to tell ourselves how good we are! “The only focus right now is: Don’t drink one drop of beer or alcohol.”

“Rest, eat good, regeneration the day after tomorrow and prepare the game against one of the best teams in all terms in the Premier League and Europe when they had six days to prepare and we had two-and-a-half.”

City have won the EFL Cup already, and they are considered consensus favorites in all three of the remaining competitions- PL, UCL, FA Cup. One sports book, Ireland’s Paddy Power, is offering quadruple odds and right now City are backed at 9/2 on that.

“Yeah, we won 22 of the last 23 so it’s not bad,” Guardiola continued.

“Of course, if we want to be in contention in all competitions you have to make these kind of numbers. It’s the same with Liverpool in the Premier League.”
