Jose Mourinho Won’t Say Why Alexis Sanchez Was Dropped from Squad

The struggling Alexis Sanchez, Manchester United’s highest paid player, was dropped from the match day squad that lost to West Ham United today 3-1. He wasn’t just benched, he was omitted from the side entirely, and no reason was given why. When manager Jose Mourinho was pressed on this after the disastrous loss at the London Stadium, he was evasive, and refused to give a direct answer.

Instead he blamed those calling for Anthony Martial to be in the first team, and claimed he acquiesced to their wishes.

“Look, for many months people have been asking for Martial, Martial, Martial,’ said Mourinho on BT Sport. “For many months people have been saying that Alexis Sanchez has not being playing well enough. So this week it was time to agree and to say let’s give a chance to Martial and let’s leave Alexis out.”

Jose Mourinho simply replied "options" when asked why he has left Alexis Sanchez out of his squad for the Premier League clash with West Ham.The former Arsenal star has struggled to hit top form ever since joining United in January 2018, with his inconsistent performances #WHUMUN pic.twitter.com/Lz0gLvX1v1

It’s definitely not like Mourinho to give in to what the fans or pundits say. That’s not his style his at all, so something must be up with the Chilean. Whatever the real reason may be, fitness, disciplinary, personal or something els, Mourinho is refusing to disclose it. All we know at this point is that the situation is extremely mysterious.

What we also know is that Alexis has been a major bust at United. For reportedly record wages, MUFC are getting a disastrous return on their investment. It’s not hyperbole to say that he could be the worst signing of the Premier League era for Old Trafford.
