It’s been a very long time coming, but for Chelsea FC fans it may be well worth the wait. Maurizio Sarri was finally unveiled today as the new Chelsea manager. Stamford Bridge had targeted him as the man to replace the long embattled Antonio Conte (who was sacked on Wednesday, but announced as being dismissed only yesterday) for months, but the transition was held up by the contract release clauses for both Conte and Sarri.

It had certainly gotten tedious, but the playing style we saw under Sarri at Napoli was anything but. You can likely expect a lot of fun, exciting attacking football in west London under Maurizio Sarri this upcoming season.

The style of play on the pitch this season may indeed be well worth the wait. Napoli led Serie A in scoring the three seasons that the 59-year-old was in charge. The club unveiled Sarri, who signed a three year deal, on social media with the hash tag  #WelcomeSarri

“I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves,” reads a statement attributed to Sarri on the club website.

Club Director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘

“We are delighted to welcome Maurizio and are looking forward to him bringing his football philosophy to Chelsea. Maurizio’s Napoli side played some of the most exciting football in Europe, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal.”

Midfielder Jorginho, who was very close to signing with Manchester City, joined Sarri in moving from Napoli to Chelsea. Here’s a link to more on the official announcement of his signing.

It is widely understood that Sarri’s arrival could also prompt the transfer of CSKA Moscow Aleksandr Golovin and Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.
