United and City Prepared to Battle Over Kylian Mbappe in Transfer Market

As late ’90s one-hit wonder pop trio Hanson told us: “in an mmmbop they’re gone, yeah yeah.” Yes, Kylian Mbappe could be gone from Paris Saint-Germain this summer due to potential Financial Fair Play sanctions.

Mbappe, who on Thursday became the youngest player in French history to score at the World Cup, is the second-most expensive transfer (£128 M, but with add-ons it’s now up to £166 M, from Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain in 2018) in history behind only Neymar (£198 M from Barcelona to PSG 2017).

With Les Parisiens spending like the drunkest of sailors over the past year, the proverbial bill could be now coming due.

Depending on what the current investigation finds, Paris might need to make a major sale or two in order to avoid a fine and potential omission from the UEFA Champions League. The Ligue 1 superpower could additionally be fined.

A player with this kind of price tag can only go to a very select handful of giant clubs, and the two in Manchester definitely fit the bill. And according to the transfer rumors making the rounds right now, both Manchester United and Manchester City are keen on the 19-year-old French scoring sensation.

The Daily Mirror reports that the Manchester clubs will carry their rivalry over into a battle to sign the striker, with Real Madrid also in the mix.

The Mirror writes that Pep Guardiola is targeting Mbappe, adding that: “United would be prepared to sacrifice unsettled winger Anthony Martial in part exchange, a player they value at around £80m.”
